Ways of Preventing and Treating Split Ends
Split ends are the evil to our hair as many of us like to look at it, but we can’t seem to understand how to prevent split ends or even treat our hair correctly so that we don’t ever see a split end again. First to understand how to prevent split ends, it must first be understood how we get split ends.
Split ends are cause by the unproper care of the ends of our hair. When the ends are rubbed or tugged against fabrics that pull on our hair, that can cause split ends. Another cause to split ends is the improper use of heating tools. Getting carried away with flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers, will definitely cause split ends. Any type of instruments that ‘fry’ the hair can and will cause split ends over time if not properly taken care of. Split ends are also often caused by the excessive use of a brush. Brushing the hair like Marsha from the Brady Bunch is completely unnecessary and can actually cause harm to the hair and ends. It can and will strip the hair of its natural oils as well as cause tugging on the ends which in turn causes the ends to eventually tear.
The treatment of split ends
Unfortunately there is no getting around to treating split ends. They must be cut. They cannot be brought back as one solid end. The great news about that is that once the split ends are cut, there is a fresh new beginning with healthier ends, and it is up to you not to continue with practices that can and would destroy your ends, especially if your trying to grow you hair long.
You can take care of your ends and maintain them by:
1) Brushing less
2) Deep Conditioning Your hair with good conditioners (especially your ends)
3) Using less heat or completely eliminating heat from your hair regime
4) Using nourishing shampoos for damage hair
5) Air drying your hair
6) If heat must be used, use a heat protector
